Information Technologies and Telecommunication

The Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) is one of the most important UPZ units. Through its study programs, FCS offers programs from telecommunication technology and software development, which are highly demanded in the labor market. Students at the end of studies are able to prepare web and software products ready for application in the labor market. Students at the end of studies are able to prepare web and software products ready for application in the labor market. Also, after finishing Bachelor studies, students can continue their studies at Master level.

FCS offers two programs at the Bachelor level: Information Technology and Telecommunication – TIT and Software Design – DS. Also, FCS provides study programs at the Master of Science in Computer Science and Communication Technology. The TIT’s Bachelor program is developed in three languages: Albanian, Turkish and Bosnian. FCS has accreditation from the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) for all its programs. In the first year of the Bachelor level, students are offered courses such as: Mathematics, Computer Science Introduction, Programming Introduction, Algorithms and Data Structure, etc. In the second year, students are offered courses on various software, computer equipment, computer networks and telecommunication concepts. Each semester students have available a list of elective subjects where they can choose the subjects they want to attend. In the third year, students focus on advanced concepts of programming and telecommunications, as well as in the preparation of the thesis topic, which contribute to the development of written and oral presentation skills. Information Technologies and Telecommunication (ITT) interlink ever more closely in practice. New applications are constantly arising at the interfaces of safe data processing and data communication: from solutions for the operators of rail and road systems and for the security of electronic money transfer to domestic support of patients and the elderly.
Enterprises and authorities are taking advantage of ever more comprehensive communication networks and dynamic web pages, as they are required for interactive Web applications, portal systems and online shops.
The study program provides students with a holistic perspective, as well as technical expertise with economical elements and the ability to work in a team, elements which are demanded not only in education but also in profession.
During the study, students will be covered with all the necessary information and knowledge from theory and practice. In this bachelor, students will be able to apply the knowledge gained through three years of study, in order to develop, implement and direct towards Master study within the country or even abroad.

– Students will obtain an elementary and intermediate level knowledge of telecommunication and information technologies; i.e., the distinguishing characteristics of these technologies, the basic technical underpinnings of these technologies, and the uses of these technologies.

– Students will obtain an elementary and intermediate level knowledge of wired and wireless local and wide area network technologies, how they work, what their functions are, and how they are established.

– Students will have an understanding of the information that is transported on the network, and the importance of its accuracy and security.

– Students will obtain an elementary level knowledge and will be able to apply relational database concepts, principles, and theories to designing and creating information systems.

– Students will obtain an elementary level knowledge and will be able to apply operating system and hardware (microprocessors) concepts and principles to problem solving in the context of computer systems.

– Students will be able to explain the theory and principles of information and telecommunication technologies.

– Students will be competent in the professional practices associated with information and telecommunication technologies.

During the study, the students will be covered with all necessary information and knowledge from theory and practice. On this bachelor the students will be able to apply the knowledge gained through three years of study, in order to develop, implement and progress towards master study within a country or abroad.
Graduates of the “Information and Telecommunication Technologies” program are expected to be employed in the telecommunications and software development sector in management positions which require a combination of specialized and interdisciplinary knowledge.

In addition, the subjects in these directions are mainly practical, where based on the assessment the practical development of projects and software applications is handled. In addition, the subjects in these directions are mainly practical, where based on the assessment the practical development of projects and software applications is handled. Also, it is very easy for them to be involved in existing businesses. All this, thanks to a qualified academic staff in this field.

In the academic year 2018/19, in the academic year 2018/19, there are 12 professors and regular assistants, of whom 9 are Doctor of Science, as follows: 3 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors and 3 Assistants. To fully understand the subjects in computer science teaching, theory and practice should be balanced. For this purpose, there are 2 general computer labs and 1 logic design laboratory in which appropriate experiments can be carried out.

Students, after completing their studies, earn the “Bachelor” academic degree in Computer Science in the respective course. FSHC graduates will be able to work as engineers of software systems, web programmers and application software, and data center managers. Also, they will be able to design and implement industrial or engineering systems with the help of computers. Among our graduates, a considerable number are employed in local and international companies, offering technology services, but there are also those who are involved in the education of future generations and contributing to new scientific research.

UPZ is in cooperation with several state universities in Germany, Austria, Albania, Turkey, Poland etc. In addition, our students have the opportunity to benefit from projects such as Erasmus + and many other projects.
